Water Hyacinth

Description

Benefits:
Water hyacinths are one of the most effective natural water filters, removing excess nutrients that contribute to algae growth. Their dense floating foliage provides shade and protection for fish while helping maintain stable water temperatures. In summer, they produce attractive lavender-purple flowers.

Hardiness:
Water hyacinths are tropical plants and will not survive winter in Oklahoma. They must be treated as an annual.

Care Tips:
These plants thrive when floating on the surface in full sun. They are fast growers and require regular thinning to prevent overgrowth. In fall, remove them from the pond to prevent decay and excess nutrient buildup in the water.
